EXCITING COMMUNITY ART VENTURE LAUNCHED

BY LEICESTERSHIRE CRAFT CENTRE

"Let’s get Market Harborough crafting!” is the mantra of the Leicestershire Craft Centre who want to involve everyone in Market Harborough and surrounding villages in an exciting art exhibition to go on display at the LCB Depot in Leicester City Centre in May 2013.

Entry into the exhibition is open to anyone living in the Market Harborough area, whatever their age and ability. The remit is to produce a fish in any medium. All the fish will be collected and displayed in the gallery in Leicester from 14th to 30th May 2013.

“We are absolutely delighted to be chosen to host an exhibition” said Andrea Greenaway, who is organising the project. “It’s a fantastic way of putting Market Harborough on the map and bringing art and creativity to the town. We hope that hundreds of local people will get involved and have the pleasure of seeing their piece of art displayed in a gallery setting.”

If you would like to be part of the exhibition you can collect a fish template from the Craft Centre, or download it from the website. They will also be available in Waitrose and the Harborough Mail office. You can decorate your fish in any way you like: drawing, watercolour, acrylics, pen and ink, collage in paper, fabric, embroidery, patchwork, felting, crochet, knitting, quilting and printing are just a few possibilities. The only limitation is no ceramics please. We’d love to see lots of fish using recycled materials and we are looking for loads of creativity and inspiration. Every single completed fish submitted to the Craft Centre will be used in the exhibition in Leicester.

“We are planning to visit local schools and craft groups to host free fish-making workshops as well as holding some at the Craft Centre itself. We’d also love local businesses to be involved and submit fish that reflect their organisation.” So come on everyone, whether you are a talented artist and crafter, a wannabe maker, or a young person who simply enjoys getting arty, have a go and make a fish!”

"It was great fun," said Katharine, "Everyone was coming up with some fabulous design ideas and getting very creative and crafty!".

02/10/2012   Craft Centre Helps Ridgeway School Celebrate.

The Leicestershire Craft Centre is delighted to be helping Year 5 & 6 children at Ridgeway Primary Academy in Market Harborough celebrate their 40th Birthday with a crafting project. The children are creating a special collage of the school to commemorate the 40 years that it has been open. Using fabric and embroidery the pupils have designed panels to mark the exceptional events that have happened in the UK this year - the Olympics, Paralympics and Diamond Jubilee. The tapestry also depicts the school and each child in the Year Group has made a person to be attached to the finished piece.

Katharine Wright said, "I have really enjoyed helping the children design and create this beautiful picture - it is very much their own work, and the students have said that they have enjoyed sewing as it is an activity they do not normally do." The finished picture has been put on display in the foyer of the school.
